Comprehensive research shows the following:
– Every minute a South African dies
of Aids
– 69% of Youth will not graduate School
– 88% of people are unemployed
– 90% of Pastors have no Bible training
My son Keith is currently preaching a series
on the Parables of Jesus at their church in
Wisconsin – His latest study is on the
parable of the Good Samaritan – It’s
my favorite parable!
There has been much debate about why the lawyer
chooses to tempt the Lord and then try to patronize
Him by calling Him Master – did he not
realize he was in fact talking to The Master?
In the story have you ever wondered why Jesus
used the cities of; "from Jerusalem to
Jericho" in his parable (Luke 10:30).
Jerusalem is where every believer should be
living, at the cross and joyously anticipating
the New Jerusalem! But there is a journey to
be completed involving Jericho (a picture of
the world). Those who live there are to be reached
with the gospel, by “all means”.
The Good Samaritan (Jesus) and every true believer
that follows Him must journey to the same place
(the world). The religious (priest) and legalistic
(Levite) are also there (v31 – 32). As
a follower of Jesus we journey to Jericho to
seek out those who have fallen, broken hearted,
lost and dieing without Christ (v30). If the
heart, soul, strength and mind of a believer
are in love with the Lord (v27) and focused
on Jerusalem past (the Cross) and Jerusalem
future (Heaven), he will not “pass by”
but will be like Jesus – a GOOD Samaritan.
A Samaritan so driven by the love of God for
the peoples of the world that he will leave
the comforts of home and go and make a difference
in one life or many, as God chooses. To make
a difference we are to be different and be:
G -
Gracious (compassionate), (v33) – people
have compassion and pass by, not this man!
O -
Observant (v33) – To observe he had to
go, he went and God used him to help a dying
man
O -
Obedient (v34) – his obedience resulted
in him being used of God in a way that he did
not expect
D –
Dedicated, (v 35 – 36) – he gave
all that he had, held nothing back, and left
a heritage, just like Jesus
The Lord has told the CMI team in 2007
“Go and do likewise” (v37)
CMI have built strong relationships with Churches
and Schools in the Squatter Areas of Cape Town
(Khayelitsha, Barcelona, Mitchell’s Plain
and Masipumelela) in the past three years. The
CMI team minister in these areas regularly.
US partner churches and their short term mission’s
teams have been used greatly to help us reach
the hurting, poor and sickly (Aids Orphans).
There is millions of dollars going into social
programs with no apparent change to the Aids
epidemic, but when the gospel of Jesus Christ
is proclaimed we have seen life changing results.
The CMI partner churches and schools are asking
for help as they have seen such a change following
these missions’ trips particularly in
the lives of their children and youth. Following
extensive discussions with the Pastors and leaders
we have identified 3 great needs which are as
follows;
‘Good Samaritan’
project 2007
Short term missions teams that will focus
on Children’s / Youth ministry linked
to the local church
Leadership training for Pastors and Leaders.
The majority of local Pastors are bi –
vocational with little training
They are requesting help particularly in leadership
training. Our CMI partner churches have also
asked us to link the training to the ‘Spring
Harvest’ Revival meetings – we have
agreed to do this
Educational Books, Toys, Games, Sunday School
materials / Sports equipment / Bibles and Bible
story books
Family Life Books / Computer Software (educational)
/ Teacher training materials for all grades
of children
We are going to ship 2 containers of the above
goods from the US to Cape Town in 2007
Can you help us fill these containers with these
goods for these disadvantaged schools?
Many have so graciously invested in the lives
of South Africans with us over the past 3 years.
The team of CMI thank God for you and your church.
After prayerful consideration would you be willing
to help us with the above needs in 2007? –
We will understand if you are not able to commit
for the coming year, but if you can help in
one or more of these areas we look forward to
hearing from you.
Full details with a short term mission’s
proposal and information on the container loading
dates and venues will be given on request and
will be posted on our website: www.capemissionsint.co.za
We know Gods call on us is “to go do likewise”
– We hope you can join us and be part
of the ‘Good Samaritan’ Project
of 2007.
